Saint Patrick’s Day is a cultural and religious celebration held on 17 March, the traditional death date of Saint Patrick the patron saint of Ireland. Each year, thousands of partygoers wearing Irish green and Guinness hats descend on London for St Patrick’s Day. Countless people soak up the luck of the Irish as they turn the capital green on March 17. It’s not a public holiday in England, London pulls out all the stops for St Patrick’s Day each year. Pancake Day, which is otherwise known as Shrove Tuesday,it is always the day before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday and the beginning of the 40 days leading up to Easter. This year it falls on Tuesday, February 25th . The tradition of eating pancakes on Shrove Tuesday began as a way to use up ingredients including butter, milk and eggs that were not supposed to be eaten and would go bad during the period of Lent. Pancakes, particularly thin and buttery crepes, were a great way to clear the cupboards in one easy and indulgent dish. Lucky for us, England offers some of the most magical Christmas markets and I have put together a list of the Top five must visits Christmas markets this year!
